Screening of Amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus L.) Mutant Lines for Salinity Tolerance
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aims: The present study was carried out to access the salt tolerance level of nine amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus) mutant lines selected from Benin cultivar ‘Locale’ at young plants stage in comparison with used as control.
Study Design: experiment laid a Completely Randomized Design three replications.
Place and Duration Study: screening house University Abomey-Calavi, City Republic May June, 2020.
Methodology: Three-weeks old stable control were planted pots containing mixture potting soil sand. NaCl concentrations: 0; 100; 150 200 mM given by irrigation once two days Plant growth parameters evaluated after weeks.
Results: Salt effect caused reduction plant whatever parameter considered significant disparity (p=.001) among genotypes. Growth cultivar, 1, 11 15 most affected under stress whereas that 18; 23 16 least affected. A difference (p=.01 or p=.001) observed index highest line followed 18 2; lowest 17, 10 cultivar.
Conclusion: Some variability for their resistance. Lines 23, 2 appeared resistant types 15, sensitive. Thus, are promising areas. Further studies necessary determine physiological biochemical mechanisms involved lines’

Major Peptides from Amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus) Protein Inhibit HMG-CoA Reductase Activity
The objective of this study was to identify the major peptides generated by the in vitro hydrolysis of Amaranthus cruentus protein and to verify the effect of these peptides on the activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA reductase), a key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. A protein isolate was prepared, and an enzymatic hydrolysis that simulated the in vivo digestion of...
متن کاملIdentification of a Catalase-Phenol Oxidase in Betalain Biosynthesis in Red Amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus)
Betalains are a group of nitrogen-containing pigments that color plants in most families of Caryophyllales. Their biosynthesis has long been proposed to begin with hydroxylation of L-tyrosine to L-DOPA through monophenolase activity of tyrosinase, but biochemical evidence in vivo remains lacking. Here we report that a Group 4 catalase, catalase-phenol oxidase (named as AcCATPO), was identified,...
متن کاملPhytochemical Composition, Antioxidant and Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitory Activities of Amaranthus cruentus L. and Amaranthus hybridus L. Extracts
This paper describes a preliminary assessment of the nutraceutical value of Amaranthus cruentus (A. cruentus) and Amaranthus hybridus (A. hybridus), two food plant species found in Burkina Faso. Hydroacetonic (HAE), methanolic (ME), and aqueous extracts (AE) from the aerial parts were screened for in vitro antioxidant and xanthine oxidase inhibitory activities. Phytochemical analyses revealed t...

متن کاملGreenhouse and Field Screening for Salinity Tolerance
Developing alfalfa varieties with tolerance to salinity requires a multi-prong research approach. Because of the complexity of the plant by environment interaction a combination of laboratory, field and greenhouse selection techniques is most effective in addressing this complicated trait. At Forage Genetics our breeding strategy for salinity tolerance includes high throughput laboratory and gr...
